In carrying out this task, ”Handbook for Tutors” sets out a practical and effective method for any comrade who wishes to tutor others in the basics of Communist theory, giving clear and precise instructions on the content to be taught and how exactly it should be taught.
The Way Forward
Published in 1948, “The Way Forward” contains the resolutions adopted by 15th congress of the Australian Communist Party. Resolutions concerning issues such as the unjust treatment of Aboriginal Australians, American imperialism and Australia’s role within it and the inadequacy of the Labor party show just how far back many of the issues we face today are deeply rooted in our past.
People Versus Banks
Written by E.W. Campbell, “People Versus Banks” convincingly argues for the necessity of the nationalisation of the Australian private banking sector. The article is opened by the then Australian Communist Party President, Lance Sharkey covering nationalisation, the effects of The Great Depression and the rise of Fascism in pre-WW2 Europe.
The W.E.A Exposed
Written in 1944, “The W.E.A. Exposed” is a convincing rebuttal to the revisionist line being distributed by the “Workers’ Educational Association” that “collectivisation has meant an accentuation of inequality of economic and political power” in the Soviet Union. Lance Sharkey uses direct quotes from Marx, Engels, Lenin and Stalin to expose the deceptive nature of the W.E.A.
Speakers' Notes, 1949 Federal Elections
Written for the 1949 Australian federal election, the “Speakers’ Notes for the Australian Communist Party” provides an excellent overview of the challenges facing Australian workers in the immediate post-WW2 era and how the party dealt these problems and provided principled, actionable answers for the workers of Australia.
How To Win Elections
The Communist Party had a very effective electoral machine committed to victory at every level of government in Australia. The intention was always to use those platforms for advocacy of a revolutionary agenda. That’s not to say the plans were impractical or lacking in appeal to working people. This booklet written after WW2 looked forward to a new way of providing cheap produce to people by the expansion of cooperative growing and marketing. It advocated a new system free of the dominance of monopolies in production and distribution. Its optimism and vision is still worth a look in the modern era of corporate control of our purchasing habits and diet.
Labor Betrayed
This booklet from 1946 reminds workers of the rotten history of collaboration of the ALP in anti-worker attacks on the Australian Communist Party. The nature of World War 2 and the behaviour of the ALP and the similarities with the conditions in Germany at the time. It also sets out immediate demands for the post-war period that were at odds with the pro-capitalist plans of the ALP.
